Giant trees and a rustic guardian

The tallest trees in the country have taken root in the Lammertal. An approximately 10-hectare natural forest reserve in St.Martin am Tennengebirge is home to imposing spruces, firs, larches and beeches. If you want to visit the giant trees, it is best to combine this with a family-friendly hike through the Austrian primeval forest.

The favourable climatic conditions, the optimal slope location and excellent soil conditions have made these trees what they are: gigantic. The most colossal of the giant trees is an approximately 300-year-old, 48-metre-high fir: the “Lammertaler Wächter”. This literally outstanding tree leaves young and old alike in respectful amazement at the power and beauty of nature.
