City Cinema and City Theater

Cinematic delights in Hallein

In 1925 the cinema theater opened in Hallein and in 1931 the first sound film was shown in the city cinema Hallein – today the film theater can look back on almost 100 years of history and is a fixed point in Hallein as a cultural site.

After turbulent years and its threatening decay, the Stadtkino Hallein has been shining in a new light since its redesign in 1993. The redesign was based on the plans of architect Heinz Tesar and since then it has enjoyed a generous glass front and the magnificent city terrace above the foyer. The 2 cinema halls with 347 and 52 seats respectively offer a varied cinema programme ranging from cultural films to the latest blockbusters and children’s films. For discerning cineastes, there is the “Stadtkino Hallein Filmclub” every Tuesday, with the main focus on arthouse films and alternative genres. Film enjoyment for all at Stadtkino Hallein.
