Erlebnis & Sport

The countryside around the small spa and health resort of Bad Dürrnberg is a true all-rounder, making it a worthwhile destination at any time of day, not only in summer.

Summer on the Dürrnberg. Summer means exhilarating walks through blooming Alpine meadows, climbing tours on rugged mountain sides, leisurely circular hiking trails for the whole family, "pixie" walks for children, hair-raising rides on the "Keltenblitz" summer toboggan run, cycling tours to the Truckenthannalm, hiking trails through shady forests and across sunlit plateaus.

The Dürrnberg is extremely finely dressed in winter, when glistening snow crystals cover the slopes, inviting people to come skiing, ski-touring and hiking. Over the years, the Dürrnberg has developed into a real paradise for winter sports enthusiasts. What distinguishes the imposing salt mountain at the gates of Hallein is above all its diversity. Whether it be skiing, snowboarding, ski-touring or snowshoe hiking – you'll find the best of conditions for your favourite winter sport activity on the Dürrnberg. After an eventful day in the snow, you can warm up again in the Zinkenstüberl, for example. The mountain restaurant sits enthroned at an altitude of 1330 metres, guaranteeing magnificent views.

Rif for Everyone

Due to the unique location and, above all, its many and varied uses, the "Sports Town", originally built in 1986, has been transformed into a true center of sports. Whether for top-flight athletes, sports for the enjoyment of the general public, university education, sports for the physically challenged etc. - at Sports Center Hallein/Rif, everything is under one roof.

Created by the University of Salzburg in cooperation with the student dormitory, the inter-departmental specialty known as "Sports & Exercise Sciences" resulted in development of a campus modeled on the classic American style.

The Sports Center is appreciated by local residents in particular. The idea of an open sports facility has been integral to the concept from the vey outset. This means that all of the outdoor facilities aren't just available to reserved groups, but also for the use of the public in general, the goal being to inspire everyone to become actively involved in sports. A floodlit running track, track & field facilities, 4 beach-volleyball courts, street-basketball courts, street soccer, a court for inline-skate hockey, 2 soccer fields, 2 hard-court tennis courts, a climbing tower, slackline park, Kneipp pool, children's playground, skater area and, last but not least, the installation of a school exercise path, now have everyone, young and old, streaming to Rif.

Here you can obtain complete information about upcoming events, in- and outdoor facilities along with the extensive range of sporting opportunities.
