Silent Night in SalzburgerLand
Silent Night! Holy Night!
The former home of composer Franz Xaver Gruber stands straight across from Hallein parish church. We invite you to learn more about this world-famous Christmas song and its creation. Aside from original manuscripts, the guitar used by Joseph Mohr when the song was first performed in 1814 is also on display. In today's Silent Night Museum, you can likewise take a glimpse into the former study of the parish choirmaster. Franz Xaver Gruber was buried in front of his former home - his grave can be seen there to this day; and every December 24th at 5 p.m. it is the site of a wonderful event simply known as "Singing at the side of Gruber's grave".
