Vibrant small town with a long history and real zest for life

The entire ensemble that makes up the historical quarter of Hallein, with imposing old homes once belonging to the prosperous middle classes, broad squares and enchanted streets, is a listed monument and always well worth a visit. Lively street-side cafes, Italian ice-cream parlors, bistros and inns with secluded outdoor seating, are all characteristic of life in this county seat. In the trendy boutiques and shops, where you will always receive personal service, you will find all kinds of beautiful items with little or nothing in common with the mass-produced goods you encounter elsewhere.

City of Arts & Culture

Life in our town is also shaped by culture and many different special events. In the summer months, the grand world of the theatrical stage makes a guest appearance with us at the Alte Saline on the Pernerinsel, courtesy of the Salzburg Festival.
No matter whether you are more a fan of classical, folk or modern events: Hallein offers a diverse program of concerts, cabaret, theatre and so much more throughout the year. In several galleries, exhibitions of international and local artists are regularly held.
